First consignment of imported onions to arrive in Bangladesh today

Bangladesh is set to receive its first consignment of imported onions from India on March 29. Rezwanur Rahman, the additional secretary of the Commerce Ministry, stated: "The first phase of 1,650 tons of onions to reach Bangladesh from India by train on Friday. Later, the rest will come by turns."

This announcement was made amid rising onion prices in Bangladesh, prompting a government initiative to import onions on a G-to-G basis. However, the plan faced a setback when India imposed an export ban due to a spike in domestic prices, leading to a subsequent price increase in the Bangladeshi market.
