Gerard Pujol Verdú has been unanimously re-elected as president of the Regulatory Council of the PDO Pera de Lleida pear (DOP Pera de Lleida in Spanish).
This will be Gerard Pujol's third term as Chairman of the Regulatory Board. Gerard Pujol is a fruit producer from Corbins (a plant associated with Actel) and treasurer of the Catalan Federation of PDO and PGI.
Pujol faces this new stage at the head of the PDO Pera de Lleida with the need to adapt the brand to the new sustainability challenges and with the difficulty to differentiate the product if the new packaging regulations promoted by the central government are implemented.
The new president is satisfied with the consolidation of the team led by the Council, "which will allow us to continue working in the same line that combines the recognition of the territory and the producers with the promotion of the PDO Pera de Lleida on television and on digital networks to reach consumers."
According to Gerard Pujol, “everything suggests it will be a good campaign in volume and quality. The trees are rested because of the frosts there were a year ago that caused a drop in production.”
“However, we must be attentive to the water capacities of the territory. A limitation of the water available at the time of fruit growth could have repercussions on its caliber and viability,” he added.
The Governing Commission highlighted the recognition that the PDO Pera de Lleida brand has achieved in the market in recent years and the confidence it generates in consumers.
Afrucat maintains the secretariat of the Council offering a multidisciplinary task that includes: quality management, administrative and documentary management, and managing the promotion of the PDO Pera de Lleida.
