France: “anti-food waste” label in French distribution

In order to take action against food waste and distinguish the committed players of the food chain, the French government has set up a national anti-food waste label, launched during the Agriculture Show in Paris. Since March 3rd, distributors can claim the new “anti-food waste” label. This label is available to large and medium-sized retailers, wholesalers and food service professionals.

The new national label was developed by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, ADEME and AFNOR.

In order to qualify for this new label, a set of specifications must be met, which have been defined by Afnor. 1, 2 or 3 stars, depending on the level achieved in terms of fight against waste.
