Switzerland: Gebr. Meier AG greenhouses recently equipped with innovative heat pump

"We are now heating our greenhouses fossil fuel free"

Gebr. Meier AG is one of the largest vegetable producers in the canton of Zurich, with approximately 10ha of greenhouse space. The new heat pump has been in operation since November 2022. "Since then, we have been heating the greenhouses without fossil fuels," Fritz Meier tells BauernZeitung. The heat does not come from the earth but from the still hot, already purified wastewater from the ARA.

The wastewater treatment plant is only a few hundred meters away. Once the heat has been extracted from the water, it is pumped back again. The thermal energy gained can be used to drive the pump, which has an output of 720 kW.
