Berlin wholesale market:

Retailers want new location at former Tegel Airport

Due to the slow negotiations for the redevelopment of the Berlin wholesale market and the renewed rent increases (between 12 and 22 percent), a large number of the traders no longer see a future at the location in the Moabit district. According to the traders' cooperative, the wholesale market should be completely rebuilt. It should arise on the site of the former Tegel Airport, Nils Doerwald, board member of the Beusselmarkt cooperative told the Tagesspiegel.

At the airport, a "Berlin Food Area" could be created that combines "urban food production" with science and research. If Doerwald has his way, vegetables will be grown there in the future, using vertical farming and robots. Artificial meat will be produced in a laboratory there. Doerwald believes this will fit well with the "Urban Tech Republic" planned there.
