Due to periodic and emergency power outages, the process of storing apples has become significantly more complicated, and some producers refuse further storage at all, because they are simply unable to provide a stable power supply at the moment.
"If back in September-October it was possible to talk about the fact that producers were actively putting apples into long-term storage in the hope of improving the price situation in the second half of the season, now the situation looks less optimistic," states Maria Lakeyeva, an expert fruit and vegetable marketer in Ukraine.
Before the New Year, sales of apples increased slightly. Firstly, their supply has decreased to a certain extent, and secondly, taking into account the unstable exchange rate and the expected increase in the price of exotic fruits, an increase in demand for apples is not excluded.
In general, the situation in the domestic apple market is unlikely to change significantly, she believes. Producers will sell primarily those apples that are not suitable for long-term storage.
