Organic ginger from a Dutch greenhouse

From its outset, Sawari Fresh has had a clear mission: supplying the highest quality ginger from across the globe to its clients in Europe and beyond. In 2020, that focus led this Dutch company to move beyond importing and packaging ginger. That year, to flesh out its business strategy partners Sander Kleinjan and Arie Havelaar made an important decision. They wanted to produce top-quality ginger as close to the European market as possible.

So, in early 2021, the company began cultivating fresh ginger in a greenhouse in the Netherlands. "Through an intensive trial and error process, we succeeded in producing a fantastic product. Sawari focuses on innovation and new product development, so we can now give our customers increased access to Dutch-produced, truly fresh ginger," says Arie.

"Initial market research shows that this fresh ginger was an instant hit with consumers," adds Sander. "It's an intense taste experience in which freshness, health, and vitality combine perfectly. The hospitality industry, too, is responding enthusiastically to this innovative product. It opens up new possibilities for chefs' culinary creativity. Based on retailers' initial reactions, we can surmise that this genuinely fresh ginger could create a new niche market," he concludes.

Sawari is currently developing custom packaging for consumers, eateries, and retailers.
