"Currently we have a wait-and-see attitude towards the market for Chilean cherries"

Chilean airfreight cherries arrived at the Jiangnan Market in Guangzhou on November 8, attracting a lot of attention and starting a new season of cherries in the Guangzhou market. In order to get a preliminary understanding of the current situation of Chilean cherries, FreshPlaza spoke to Mr. Yin from Yiding International Trade Co., Ltd.

"The first batch of airfreight cherries to arrive at the Jiangnan market in Guangzhou came from big brands such as San Francisco, ranging from J to JJJ-level. The arrival volume is not large, mainly bringing a certain advertising effect to the brand. It is understood that the price of this batch of cherries this year is close to last year, but slightly higher. However, the price of the first container did not determine the subsequent market trend. "

Regarding the cherry market in the new production season, Yin said that he currently has a wait-and-see attitude. "This year's Spring Festival is more than ten days earlier than before, and the number of cherries arriving before the festival is expected to be about 20% higher than in previous years. However, Guangzhou is still in the grip of the pandemic, which will have a certain impact on the sales of cherries. It is estimated that later this year, the import price of cherries may be lower than last year. "

In terms of production areas, according to Yin, the weather in Chilean production areas this year is good, and the quality of cherries is good. Among them, the popular Santina, Bing, and Regina varieties in the Chinese market accounted for more than in previous years.

In terms of packaging, Yin said that the current mainstream is still the "2-in-1" packaging of 5 kg and two boxes of 2.5 kg each. "The shortage of packing boxes still exists. The production and export volume of Chilean cherries have increased this year, but the packaging volume is relatively fixed, resulting in a shortage of packing boxes."

Besides, it is understood that the first cherries shipped by sea will arrive at Yantian Port on December 11.

Yiding International Trade Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in the import of avocados and Chilean cherries. The company's main business is to import fruits and supply them to distributors in Guangzhou and Shanghai. The company office is located in Guangzhou and has a wholesale stall in Zhengzhou.
