An asparagus harvesting machine that will take the back-breaking work out of harvesting this delicate produce will be available from the spring of 2023.
Harvest Corp Technology and Triton Innovation in Tillsonburg worked on the new machine to take care of the otherwise time consuming harvesting. It will use a sensor to identify stalks that are ready to cut, but this was also the biggest challenge. According to Steve Spanjers of Triton asparagus is hard to identify from weeds in the field, which the machine had to learn.
They aim is to have it available in the Spring of 2023. The four-row machine will on estimate be paid off over 5 years.
