Spanish carriers call for another indefinite strike

On Monday, the National Platform in Defense of the Transport Sector presented the results of the votes of the provincial assemblies that, with 86% of the votes in favor, have agreed to support a new indefinite strike from midnight on Sunday to protest the non-compliance by the shippers of the cost control law, which prohibits working at a loss.

In March, the organization carried out a strike and got the Government to commit to pushing forward a cost control law, which was approved in August. "The whole thing is a joke. Shippers are not respecting the cost of the service, which is increasingly more expensive, so carriers are paying more and more," stated the spokesman of the Platform, Manuel Hernandez.

The transporters are calling for this new strike because of the Administration's passiveness in monitoring the application of the rule that obliges shippers to pay them prices that cover the costs of the service, as the Platform explained a few days ago.

On October 29, the provincial delegates of this platform voted in favor of calling a new strike and decided to consult their bases to make a final decision.

During his speech at the press conference, the Platform's spokesman said that they had denounced six large transport operators. A month and a half later, we still don't know if the authorities have opened a case against them, he added.
