What's new at Macfrut - Italy

For the first time at the fair, an exhibition on innovations in nursery gardening

The Exhibition of Nursery Gardening and Varietal Innovation will debut at Macfrut 2023 (Rimini Expo Center May 3-5, Italy). It will be an international and specialized meeting point for nursery growers, breeders, producers, technicians and researchers in a field that is strategic for the development of modern specialized fruit growing.

"At the center of the show will be a sector that is ever evolving," explained Stefano Lugli, scientific coordinator of the new exhibition, "thanks to the improvement of plant propagation techniques in nurseries, the ongoing transition of qualification and certification processes for propagation materials, and control systems for the production process, which are all essential factors to ensure the highest quality of final products, full genetic-health compliance and complete traceability of nursery productions.

"A district that can transfer its know-how in the productive process, with the companies being offered end-to-end services and consulting programs to best design and manage new fruit plantings and maximize returns on investment. For these reasons, the nursery world deserves a specialized and dedicated international showcase."

Renzo Piraccini, president of Macfrut, comments, "What's new about the Plant Nursery Salon represents very well the uniqueness of Macfrut in the fruit and vegetable scenario, because of the verticality of the topics addressed, coordinated by experts who guarantee the highly qualified nature of the event."

What will the Plant Nursery Salon look like
In the new exhibition area entirely dedicated to nursery gardening and varietal innovation housed in the Rimini Exhibition Center, visitors will be able to experience firsthand the results achieved in the sector, compare notes and build relationships with those who create and develop innovation in fruit growing. There will be conferences, technical seminars and workshops on topics relevant to the entire supply chain. The event will be under the patronage of the Italian Horticultural Society, which includes work groups dealing with nursery gardening and varietal innovations, the collaboration of important joint-professional organizations, such as CIVI Italy, and a number of international networks working in nursery gardening and varietal innovation, as well as the presence of the main companies in the sector.

Participants will discuss certifications and qualifications of nursery productions, approaches to patent protection and tutelage as well as the fight against varietal piracy, varietal clubs and modern planning formulas for the fruit supply chain, new breeding technologies used to create innovation, and the research and development of new techniques in the nursery sector, during five round tables focused on the international nursery scene.

The five varietal update workshops will take stock of the latest results of genetic improvement within fruit growing at a global scale. This year's topics will include varietal innovation in actinidia, cherry, strawberry, apple and grape. It will be followed by discussions with those who create and propagate varietal innovation worldwide, namely breeding companies, publishers, and varietal innovation management consortia.

Companies interested in participating as exhibitors at the international nursery and varietal innovation expo can make arrangements with the Macfrut organization.
