Week 42 Fruit Wholesale Market Report

Prices of South African citrus continue to rise, domestic grapefruit volumes are increasing in China

In the fruit wholesale market this week, there are not many varieties or quantities of imported fruits, and the market performance is relatively calm. In addition to the recent local pandemic, the flow of goods and sales in the market has been reduced accordingly.

New Zealand Green Apple

Arrival volumes of South African citrus fruits continue to decline, driving prices up. Among them, the price of South African grapefruit has increased by about 12% compared with last week. Last week, the price of the goods was about ¥240/box, and this week it was about ¥270/box. South African oranges rose slightly more than grapefruit this week. According to the merchant, the oranges that were priced at ¥160/box earlier are now priced at more than ¥200, and the increase varies depending on the brand.

In the grapefruit category, the arrival of domestic grapefruit is increasing, and the current price is about ¥170-¥200/box according to different specifications. Due to the shortage of South African grapefruit and the high price, many merchants who originally sold South African grapefruits are now selling domestic grapefruits.

South African Oranges

In terms of avocados, avocados from Peru, Chile and, domestically, Yunnan are the major ones. Among them, the prices of Peruvian and domestic avocados have dropped by about 15% compared with last week. Based on the same specifications, the current prices are about ¥120/box and ¥100/box respectively. The price of Chilean avocados did not change much, about ¥140/box. Some merchants who sell in these types of avocados said that the current Chilean avocado market is relatively good. Even if the price is the highest among them, the sales are the best.

Domestic grapefruit

The price of Peruvian blueberries has not changed much, and some expensive brands have slightly increased, but the difference is not big. Some merchants said that due to the overall increase in the arrival volume of Peruvian blueberries this year, the price dropped by about ¥5/piece (the specification is 1.5kg/piece) compared with the same period of previous years. Although the decline of each piece is not very large, because the blueberries are small and light in size, and the number of pieces in one shipment is large, the price declines more based on the total amount.

Both Dutch and Belgian conference pears are on sale, with Dutch pear prices down about 15% from last week. The price of Belgian pears is slightly higher than that of Dutch pears, and some merchants said that Belgian pears are selling relatively well.

Chilean mandarin is already on the market, but it is still in the early stage, and the taste is still sour.

In terms of domestic fruits, in addition to grapefruit, there are more Qiuyue pears, apples, and oranges. Different varieties of domestic citrus enter the market one after another, and some of the high-end brands have already been sold out due to their low availability and stable quality.
