Ripening capacity of 40,000 tons

France: Omer-Decugis & Cie acquires a logistics platform in Avignon

Omer-Decugis & Cie has taken another step forward in its strategic development plan with the acquisition of a logistics platform in Avignon, which will have a ripening capacity of 40,000 tons.

Located on a plot of 10,000 m², this logistics asset of 3,000 m² will be operational from November 2022, once the technical equipment is installed, and it will offer an additional ripening capacity of 17,000 tons for a total available capacity of 127,000 tons for the group by 2023.

This platform will be extended on the available land to bring the potential of the site to 6,000 m² and 40,000 tons of ripening capacity. Once the extension project is completed, the total and cumulative ripening capacity of the group on its two logistics platforms (Rungis and Sorgues) will reach 150,000 tons.

As announced in its strategic development plan for 2025, this new logistics base, located in the immediate vicinity of the A7 and A9 motorways, will allow the group to serve all its client platforms south of Lyon with improved service quality and higher operational performance. Located in an economic area known as the crossroads between northern and southern Europe, the group’s new site should also benefit fully from the dynamic initiated by the development of the national markets of interest in Châteaurenard and Cavaillon.

From an environmental point of view and following the group’s CSR approach, the extension project will be based on the construction of a sustainable logistics platform using the most advanced technologies in terms of thermal insulation, energy performance of the installations and the generation of renewable energies with the installation of photovoltaic panels.

The goal is to achieve energy neutrality with this new logistics platform. The project is fully in line with the global plan to reduce the carbon footprint which was initiated several years ago and made it possible to launch the world’s first zero-carbon pineapple from the plantations in Ecuador to Rungis in the summer of 2021.
