Chilean port workers to strike for 48 hours due to stalled negotiations with the government

The workers linked to the Port Union of Chile They are ready to start a strike that would last for 48 hours. The measure is an answer to the lack of progress in the negotiations with the Chilean government.

Some shipping companies have informed their clients in order to keep them abreast of the disruption this work stoppage will entail. The strike, in fact, coincides with the beginning of the cruise season, a greater flow of fruit exports and also the reception of imports destined for the year-end holidays.

According to sources linked to the Port Union of Chile, the measure would start this Wednesday and would last until Friday.

The stoppage would affect some 6.500 stevedoring workers present in 23 ports and terminals throughout the country, excluding facilities such as Arica, Coquimbo and Valparaíso, where the UPCH does not have a majority presence.
