NICK ‘Envy, the ultimate apple experience’

The apple harvest is in full swing for Albafruit. The company based in the French department of Tarn-et-Garonne grows 13 different varieties. After the Gala, Granny, Red Chief, Golden and Jazz, it is now time for the Envy campaign. “We are now harvesting the first Envy apples and marketing should start this week,” explains Christophe Ochs, director of Albafruit. 

Despite a complicated start, Christophe Ochs remains positive about the second part of the campaign. “The stocks from South America and the leftovers from the previous European harvest are starting to subside. There is therefore less competition on the market as the campaign begins. Besides, the quality of the Envy apple looks really promising this year, with a very nice coloration already. As a late variety, the Envy was less affected by the heatwaves.”

Christophe Ochs really believes in this red apple variety, but it is still largely unknown on the French and European markets. “The Envy has everything to attract consumers, especially the younger generation. It regularly takes first place in blind tests. One day, a client told me that “the Envy was not an apple, but a dessert!” It is particularly sweet, crunchy, juicy, with a hint of exotic fruit and it is very appealing visually. It still needs to find its place on our markets but I believe it will!”

Today, Albafruit grows Envy apples on 15 hectares of orchards that are 3 to 6 years old. 700 tons are expected for the 2022/2023 campaign.
