Grapes grown especially for the Asian markets

Budou Farms has been at Asia Fruit Logistica in the past as a visitor and saw the potential of becoming an exhibitor to facilitate access to other Asian markets, especially considering the current scenario of global grapes that is very competitive, therefore it is good to diversify markets and showcase what we do differently.

"Our main variety is Crimson seedless, which is the most well known variety in Asia, from Australia, due to its colour and exceptional flavour," said Enrique Rossi from Budou Farms. "Also this year we will be in full production of Maylen seedless which is a black grape with a very refreshing flavour that will make you come back for more, also for some Asian cultures black food means healthy, so we have the perfect combination of luck, joy and happiness (red crimson seedless) and healthy food (Maylen). Additionally we have been working in collaboration with neighbours to extend the range of varieties and supply, so this year Ivory and Timpson will be available, both white with a nice muscatish flavour. Other varieties such as Thompson and Red globe, also are available to complement timing, colours and flavours."

Enrique said that more varieties are also being planted and others will be planted next year, always considering flavour as a must.

Budou Farms is dedicated to export to Asian markets and aims to grow grapes for specific markets to meet consumer demand. They send Crimson with a minimum guarantee of 19+ brix and Thompson at 17+ brix to Japan, meanwhile for Vietnam with Maylen seedless they ship at 21 brix as this is how the customers and consumers want the grapes.

Japan is the company's main market, they also ship smaller volumes to Hong Kong and Vietnam.

"We want to keep growing in Vietnam and Hong Kong and explore Indonesia and Malaysia and possibly others."

"During the last 3 years there has been a labour shortage, we have also had La Nina for three consecutive seasons making it extra challenging since it is cloudier with lower temperatures, plus some rain, which is not ideal. However farming is a continuous challenge, so we just adapt as required."

At Asia Fruit Logistica we would like to meet people for long term business in different markets within Asia who are looking for Sweet, Safe and Sustainable grapes. Hopefully someone that is prepared to do things differently, as we are always developing new ideas and concepts from growing to packaging, cold chain, marketing and also interaction with consumers on social media and that is very important as we are not just grapes, we are a brand recognised for being Sweet, Safe and Sustainable and people ask for it. So if the demands comes from the consumer, we just need the connection to reach them."

Budou Farms will be at stand E54
