How current calibration and packaging solutions help blueberry processing plants be more competitive

TOMRA Food is a world leader in the design and manufacture of optical sorting, grading, and calibration machines for the food industry. It is also the only supplier of integrated blueberry lines that has solutions for all fruit varieties, whether fresh or frozen products. To do this, it offers a wide range of automatic equipment from feeding the line, sorting and optical calibration of the fruits, and automatic packaging systems, delivering the finished product inside boxes that are ready to be palletized.

TOMRA's solutions for blueberries are modular and scalable. Thus, they are perfect for any requirement and company size, from SMEs or family businesses to large multinationals. In addition, these modular and scalable solutions can grow as customer requirements increase.

What was once impossible, is now a reality
The KATO 260 is a market-leading high-precision sorting, grading, and calibration system. It is a compact system, to minimize the need for space and linear meters that each fruit goes through. It is designed to treat the fruit with the utmost care, which maximizes bloom retention and product shelf life. This versatile system is perfect for sorting any type of fruit by size and eliminating defective fruits.

The KETE16 is another of TOMRA's notable innovations. This robotic packing technology, which was launched earlier this year, is versatile and offers great capacity. It is installed at the end of the line, automates the process of placing clamshells, and adapts to the size of the clamshell, the box, and the orientation of the package, which greatly facilitates changes from one package to another. There is no other packaging solution capable of adapting to such a wide variety of packaging designs at such high speeds.

The KETE16 is easily adjusted to suit the speed and capacity of the CURO-16 baling system, which is currently the fastest weight-based filling option on the market. The CURO-16 has 16 filling points. Therefore, it can handle up to 200 clamshells of 128 grams of fruit per minute.

TOMRA Food also offers the CURO-8 system, which has 8 filling points and has been designed for process lines that require filling different format clamshells at the same time. The CURO-8 is capable of handling 110 clamshells per minute.

Today there are more than 2,400 KATO 260 optical sorter lines in operation around the world, a number that increases month by month.
