Yesterday, a week later than last season, the Dutch company Willem Dijk AGF received its first shipment of Spanish mandarins. "The fruit is beautiful and, as always, perfectly treated. We're starting with Satsuma/Iwasaki, an early variety with light-colored peel but orange flesh," says Ronnie Moorman.
"With multiple arrivals per week, we should be able to guarantee this early variety's freshness. We're not entering an empty, but rather a full overseas fruit market this year with relatively high prices, especially compared to 2021. This week, overseas fruit prices are expected to rise to around €18/€19. Yesterday, we began a little higher with the season's first mandarins: €0.15 more per kilogram of product and €0.02 more for transport per kilogram of product."
"There will be limited large sizes available, but this first shipment's distribution is fantastic. We'll also have overseas fruit in our assortment. Ultimately, our customers choose based on demand. The mandarin season should be great; I'm sure of that. But, top brands will determine your strength in the coming citrus season," Ronnie concludes.
