Op Tarulli: "We'll be going strong for another 15 days."

Bio Cotton Candy, the cotton candy-flavored organic grape from Italy to Switzerland and Germany

Cotton Candy is a white seedless grape variety known for its distinctive sweet aroma and scent. They are organically grown by OP Tarulli, an Apulian producers' organization based in Noicattaro (Bari), which has about 400 hectares of organic grapes.

We talked about this with Marilena Daugenti Tarulli, sales manager of the aforementioned Apulian company. "After launching in 2021, volumes have grown a lot this year. We are shipping a truckload a day to German and Swiss large-scale retail chains, customers who seem to really appreciate this variety. For the current campaign, we have designed packaging reminiscent of the colors of candy and colored jellybeans to symbolize the unique taste and aroma of this special grape."

"Since the end of July, when we start harvesting Cotton Candy, orders from Germany and Switzerland have been steadily increasing, so much so that we expect to finish the 2022 season in two weeks at the latest."

Op Tarulli is the exclusive licensee for organic crops of Cotton Candy. "At the moment," the manager continues, "there are 10 hectares in production for this variety. Our company is the largest in Europe in the production and marketing of organic grapes, with 50 cultivars of three different colors (white, red and black), sold for five months of the year, from the beginning of July until the end of November."

Cotton Candy Organic Grapes - Packaging OP Tarulli

"We cannot complain about sales, despite the difficult economic environment we have been experiencing for months. This is our second season with Cotton Candy. The only negative note is the sales prices, which are still below last year's average (-10/20%), even at the conclusion of the season. However, this is an issue that involves all grape cultivars. Production costs have risen considerably. What weighs the most are the costs of packaging, energy and seasonal labor, due to which we had to increase wages to incentivize workers."
