The Parlapiano company in Sicily

The PGI Bivona Peach is now in the Italian large-scale retail sector

The Pesca di Bivona (PGI Bivona Peach) is doing well in the Italian large-scale retail trade. This variety is commercialized by Parlapiano Fruit.

"It is one of our flagship products. For the 2022 season, it marks a steady increase in sales," said Paolo Parlapiano, sales/marketing manager of the Sicilian company.

"With a notable increase in sales volume compared to the past, thanks to the goodness of the product, we have received important feedback from the most important groups in the Italian large-scale retail sector, which value typical local products such as those with Protected Geographical Indication. The Bivona Peach, in fact, is one of the few peaches, in Italy, to have obtained the PGI label and is appealing to consumers thanks to its highly distinctive organoleptic characteristics."

"We boast the primacy of bringing appreciation to a particular product, that until recently was known only at the regional scale and is now appreciated at a national scale, thanks to widespread distribution in retail outlets throughout Italy. Its exceptional flavor distinguishes this peach from any other production from Sicily and the rest of Italy."

The cultivation of the Pesca Bivona IGP is a historical production: it originated in Bivona (Ag) in 1950 and falls within the hydrographic basin of the Magazzolo River, in the southwest of the Sicani Mountains.

"By consuming the Bivona peach, one is sure to enjoy an authentic product with a brand reputation conveyed through the slogan 'Pescabivona is said to be the best', which also defines its safety standards as a controlled and certified product,” emphasized the interviewee.

Unique flavor
"The ecotype, in general, is characterized by a medium size with white and firm flesh, furrowed with red veins. The flavor is sweet and aromatic, and the scent stands out from that of most peaches because it is truly intoxicating and persistent. Only those who have had the pleasure of tasting it can understand that any description does not do justice to its flavor."

The ripening period runs from mid-June to the third decade of October, ensuring 4 months of tastiness. Depending on the period, there are four ecotypes of Pescabivona IGP: the primizia bianca or murtiddara, the bianca, the agostina and the settembrina.
