Tahiti lemon experimented with to combat fungal disease

In the state of Mato Grosso, citrus production had the lack of rootstocks resistant to the fungal gummosis disease as a limiting factor. However, this began to change with a survey coordinated by Embrapa, in partnership with the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso (IFMT), the Mato-Grossense Company for Research, Assistance and Rural Extension (Empaer) and the Municipality of Guarantã do Norte .

The first fruit to have the most consistent results is the Tahiti acid lime known to consumers as Tahiti lime. Two experiments carried out in Sorriso (MT) and Guarantã do Norte (MT) confirmed that the scion characteristics are determined by the rootstock, however, the fruits were not influenced.

The trials generated relevant information about rootstocks that provide greater vegetative vigor and canopy volume. The evaluation of the fruits showed that they have the characteristics desired by the industry and the international market, enabling not only the service to the local market, but also the export.
