"Better start than in recent years"

Belgium: new lit cucumber season well underway

In Belgium, there is a demand for locally-grown, high-quality products. So, BelOrta is counting on lit cucumber cultivation for the fourth consecutive winter. That is now well underway at the fruit and vegetable cooperative.

At BelOrta, the lit cucumber season starts in early November. It runs until late February. It, thus, seamlessly connects with the start of traditional cultivation. That means the cooperative can offer good quality cucumbers year-round.

"This year's lit cucumber season began better than in recent years. That's thanks to, in part, Southern Europe's decreased volumes," says Bruno Vuerinckx, BelOrta's Sales Supervisor.

The cooperative's lit cultivation focuses on 350 and 400g cucumbers. Most are auctioned off. They offer plastic sealing and cucumbers in a paper band.
