Operation Linda Mananasi recovers stolen pineapples in Kenya

In a recent development from Murang'a County, Kenya, law enforcement officials have successfully reclaimed 16,905 pineapples pilfered from the Delmonte farm. This achievement is attributed to Operation Linda Mananasi, a concerted effort spanning two weeks, involving over 50 police officers dedicated to safeguarding the agricultural assets.

The operation led to the apprehension and prosecution of 222 individuals involved in the theft. Murang'a County Police Commander Kainga Mathiu highlighted the challenges faced in securing the expansive farm, which spans approximately 22,000 acres, making it a target for fruit theft. The operation also saw the seizure of vehicles and motorbikes used by the culprits to transport the stolen goods.

County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha disclosed that the convicted parties were collectively fined Kes.3,096,000, underscoring the operation's secondary benefit of generating revenue for the government. Despite the fines, the primary objective remains to deter theft and ensure farm security. The stolen pineapples are believed to have supplied a burgeoning fruit vending sector in nearby towns.
