Scientists from Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura (BA) developed two innovative methods to enhance the characteristics of passion fruit genetic resources. One of them uses mathematical models to predict the amount of fruit pulp, and the other is based on computational tools, such as software and applications, to define the color of various plant characters, such as skin and pulp.

The studies were carried out with genetic resources available at the Active Germplasm Bank (BAG) — a structure that stores the genetic material of a species — of Maracujazeiro and are part of Embrapa's strategy of investing in alternative methodologies to obtain greater precision and agility in taking of the data. The results were published in an article in Scientia Horticulturae — an international magazine that publishes research related to vegetables, fruits, edible fungi and ornamental plants.
