60 thousand tons of walnuts are grown in Ukraine every year

In Ukraine, the cultivation of walnuts on an industrial scale has intensified. The leaders are the northern regions of the country with gardens of 5-8 hectares.

Every year, 60,000 tons of walnuts are grown, and these are top positions in Europe. China, the USA, Iran, and Turkey are ahead in terms of the scale of the harvest. Ukraine exports walnuts to the countries of Central Asia, as well as to some EU countries.

"Walnuts are used to make candies, oil, and even nut wine. A kilogram of walnuts costs 4 euros," Professor Petro Skrypchuk said during the conference "Fruit and Vegetable Movement of Ukraine-2023."

In addition to walnuts, farmers throughout Ukraine grow hazelnuts on 20 hectares. Also, almonds are grown only in the Rivne region.

"Hazelnuts and almonds are most often used to make oil. The average price of a kilogram of hazelnuts and almonds (in the shell) is 2.5 euros. For farmers, it makes sense to invest in the production of these types of nuts. The consumption of the nuts world is increasing," says Vasyl Babanskyi, Honored Worker of Agriculture of Ukraine.

Ukrainian farmers also plan to grow elite varieties of nuts - pecan and black heart-shaped nut.
