David Leiva, of Tecnosoluciones Integrales: "We offer an important analytical service for certifications"

"We provide our clients with valuable information so that they can make better and faster decisions"

For every exporter, it is essential to guarantee the safety and traceability of its products, always in accordance with the regulatory frameworks of the target markets, which are constantly evolving. One such market is the European Union, which is a very attractive one and, in fact, a strategic destination for many operators in the fruit and vegetable segment in Latin America.

In a market like the EU, which has strict phytosanitary and food residue regulations and rigorous food safety policies, having access to the right analytical services can be a truly decisive factor.

"At TecnoSoluciones Integrales we look after the agricultural and finished products sector in Central America, South America and the Caribbean," says David Leiva. "Our main objective is to provide technical solutions and analytical services to producers and companies that require analyses of soil and water, of their fruits and vegetables and their finished products."

"We have been a partner of Eurofins Dr. Specht Express for more than 14 years, so we work with the world's largest network of laboratories (approximately 900 and growing every day), specialized in different types of analyses and accredited under ISO 17025 standards and many more. We can offer an optimal response time to help customers in their decision making." Eurofins is, in fact, the leading international group of laboratories globally, offering a unique range of analytical and scientific-technical services to different sectors, including agri-food or environmental, with more than 250,000 analysis methods.

"We collaborate with producers and companies on a day-to-day basis and coordinate all the work in the field, providing support and monitoring the export activity with all the necessary analyses, so that our customers can deliver their products at destination meeting every quality guarantee," says David. "In addition to the solutions offered to the producers and companies that contract our analytical services individually, we also offer an important service in the field of certifications, since certifying entities require different types of analyses, depending on the kind of certification being managed."

The creation of Tecnosoluciones was already an "important milestone for the Costa Rican export industry," recalls David Leiva. "At that time, the European Union wanted to lower the MRL for ethephon, a molecule used in pineapple cultivation, from 2 ppm to 0.02 ppm, which was going to be a drastic reduction for the industry. There was no accredited laboratory in Central America able to analyze ethephon, and that is where we came in. With the help of MAG, Tecnosoluciones helped develop a degradation curve for ethephon and thanks to that work we were able to demonstrate that the MRL was not being exceeded and that a reduction in the use was not needed. That was a great achievement for us and for the entire pineapple sector in our country."

After launching the initiative in May 2007, Tecnosoluciones Integrales expanded its services to the entire Latin American region thanks to its strategic alliance with the German group Eurofins. Today, it already has offices in Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia and Peru, from where it offers its services to producers and companies throughout the region. The company also took part, once again, in Fruit Logistica, the greatest event for the fruit and vegetable sector in the European Union, which it has attended accompanied by its European partner consistently for the last 14 years.

"Working with Eurofins is a step forward for the entire export sector in ensuring the success of their business. Response times are increasingly important and thanks to our capacity we provide our customers with valuable information so that they can make their decisions more quickly. Also, we have the advantage of being in daily contact with Latin American producers and of working with our European partner to meet the needs of our customers in Europe."
