Week 6 Wholesale Fruit Market Report

Chilean prunes volumes exceeded last year's, volume of red grapes in Peru has increased significantly

As the production season of imported cherries draws to a close, Chilean stone fruits and imported grapes have taken over the market one after another. Imported durians have gone through the peak sales period before the Spring Festival, and prices have begun to drop. Imported blueberries have decreased in arrivals, and the domestic blueberry season has started earlier.

Imported stone fruits are mainly from Chile and Australia, with more arrivals from Chile, including Chilean prunes, cherry plums, and Chilean nectarines. At present, Chilean prunes are arriving by air. The volume of arrivals has increased by about 30%-40% compared with the same period last year. The quality of the arrivals is relatively stable. Last week and the first half of this week, the delivery and price were satisfactory. As seaborne prunes will arrive this weekend, many buyers are waiting. The sales are relatively slow in the second half of the week, and prices have dropped.

Chilean cherry plums are on the market earlier than last year, and the current arrival volume is not much. The price is about 10% higher than in the same period the previous year. Sales of Chilean nectarines have been slow this week. The lack of arrivals recently has led to an increase in prices. It is expected that new arrivals will arrive this weekend.

The arrival of Peruvian red grapes has increased significantly compared with the previous years. According to merchants, the volume of Peruvian red grapes has gradually increased after the peak season of cherries. The current taste and price have not changed much compared to last year's period. Although the taste is not the best, it is not sour. There are different varieties of Peruvian green grapes on sale, and some merchants said that the sales of Sweet Earth are relatively better. At present, the green grapes mentioned are still from the northern Peru production area. In addition, South African black and red grapes have arrived one after another, and the sales are smooth.

Peruvian Red Grapes

As for blueberries, except for a few brands, Peruvian blueberries still arrive, and most of the other imported blueberries come from Chile. The Chilean blueberry season will end this month. The season is shorter than in previous years, and the arrival volume has decreased significantly year-on-year, making the price about 50%-60% higher than last year. In addition, some buyers think that Chilean blueberry fruit powder is too small, the fruit is not hard enough, and the current sales are not as good as expected. Peru and Chile's imported blueberry production season ended early this season, and domestic blueberries have been on the market one after another, earlier than in previous years.

Domestic Blueberries

Durian prices have gradually dropped after experiencing the peak sales period before the Spring Festival. For example, the price of Vietnamese Golden Pillow durian, which was priced at 1,500 yuan/box during the peak period, has gradually dropped to 1,300 yuan/box. The price of Thai durian is about 200 yuan/box higher than that of Vietnamese durian, and the price dropped after the festival. Before the Spring Festival, the sales were satisfactory. After the holiday, due to the decline in market demand and high prices, the recent sales have been slow, and the prices have also been adjusted accordingly.

The Chilean cherry season is coming to an end. A new ship arrived last weekend. This is the last large ship to arrive this season. A box of cherries that sold for about 300 yuan a year ago now sells for about 270-280 yuan this week, and the price of lower-quality batches is dropped even more. The price of cherries is adjusted almost every day and gradually goes down. The market performance of cherries this season is significantly better than last year.
