Tuesday, January 24, saw a first in Belgium. Estonian company Clevon's unmanned vehicle brought groceries ordered from Belgian supermarket Colruyt to shoppers' front doors. This is the next step in Colruyt's Collect&Go innovative test that has been running since November 23 and began with the remote-controlled trolley.
The homes of about 30 Collect&Go clients were identified along the CLEVON 1's route. It had been following this path in the Belgian town of Londerzeel from its distribution point to the Collect&Go collection point for the last two months. These people were contacted last week and asked whether they would like the unmanned vehicle to bring their shopping to their front door. The response was enthusiastic, and three home deliveries were done on Tuesday.
During this test, the shoppers who received these first deliveries ordered their groceries as per usual via the Collect&Go website. The CLEVON 1 brought their shopping to them from the Collect&Go collection point. Each person got a phone call, giving them a code to unlock the vehicle and access their goods. These people could also place their folded crates and empties in the CLEVON 1 to be returned.
Further tests will be conducted in the coming weeks.
