As the demand for dates increases two months before Ramadan, Iranian producers are actively working to supply the Indian sub-continent, which has a muslim population over 500 millions. Mr. Hossein Vasei, Sales Manager of Amoot Iranian, said, "We are meeting the needs of our neighboring countries, especially the Indian market, because our payment terms are easier and the geographical proximity reduces the costs for Indian importers."
Demand increases every year during the cold season, according to Vasei, but the peculiarity of this season is that the lunar month of Ramadan - during which date consumption increases in the Muslim world - coincides with the cold season: "We expect to increase our prices due to the high demand, and we hope that prices will remain high for the rest of the season."
The exporter is seeking to penetrate the international market, especially the European market: "We have invested in cooling facilities and made significant progress in packaging to be able to enter the global markets." In the absence of a bank transfer system between Iran and European countries, "we accept payments through our bank accounts in the UAE," says Mr. Vasei.
He adds: "Many of our competitors in the Iranian date sector do not own palm groves and buy from growers, using rented cold stores that do not meet the required standards. Also, most of them only sell at the warehouse door and cannot ship to the target market. We have large cooling facilities, we use anti-larvae products and creamy date products and our way of doing business is smooth. This is what makes us the right address for Iranian dates."
