Plum yield 5.6% above average of the years 2012-2021

German apple yield in 2022 was 10.3% above average of the last ten years

Apples are by far the largest group of orchard fruit harvested in Germany. Based on final harvest results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that approximately 1.1 million tonnes of apples were harvested in 2022.

This year’s apple yield thus was by roughly 66,000 tonnes, or 6.6%, above previous year’s level. The area used for cultivating apples fell by roughly 520 hectares, or 1.5%, in the same period. Compared with the long-term average of 2012 to 2021, the apple yield was by roughly 100,000 tonnes, or 10.3%, higher in 2022.

Following the particularly good yields in 2014 and 2018 with over 1.1 million tonnes each, the apple yield in 2022 ranked third among the largest apple yields of the last ten years. The main reasons were the good fruit development in spring and, as a result of good weather conditions, the low incidence of disease and pests.
