"The export price of Nanfeng tangerines dropped slightly compared to last year"

Nanfeng tangerines produced in Jiangxi, China, have entered the peak harvest season. It is understood that due to the weather this year, the production season has been delayed by two weeks compared to the past. In order to understand the current production season and the export performance of Nanfeng tangerines, FreshPlaza spoke to Charleston Xiong of Nanchang Lingchuang Fruit Co.Ltd.

"Nanfeng tangerines are currently being picked in large quantities. Affected by the high temperature and drought this year, there has been no rainfall in the production area for more than three months, and the fruit trees lack water. This has reduced the output of tangerines this year by more than 30% compared with the past, and the overall size is relatively small. In terms of sweetness and acidity, due to the insufficient temperature difference between day and night and the lack of rainfall, the acidity is slightly higher than in previous years. From the current point of view, the market sales are not ideal."

According to Charleston, Nanfeng County suffered from frost damage at the end of the previous year, and about one in three fruit trees were damaged by the frost. As a result, the output of tangerines dropped sharply last year, and the price increased significantly, resulting in high export prices. Compared with last year, the export price this year is slightly lower than last year, but the range is not large, because the cost and price of sea and land transportation have all increased. In addition, when talking about the Southeast Asian market, Charleston specifically mentioned the Vietnamese market: "It is understood that the Vietnamese market is currently on the rise. It is said that the local consumer market has a better acceptance of fruits with higher quality and price."

The business scope of Lingchuang Fruit covers sales in China as well as import and export. Regarding the current market situation, Charleston said: "Due to global macroeconomic reasons and the pandemic, in recent years our company's import and export volume has shrunk compared to before. But on the other hand, for some high-quality fruits in China, domestic sales have more advantages than export. High-quality fruits can get good prices in the domestic market, but not necessarily in the Southeast Asian export market, except for grapes. There are still high-end grapes produced in China that are popular in the export market, such as Shine Muscat and Crimson Red Grapes. "

"In addition to the traditional Nanfeng Tangerine, we are planting some other citrus varieties. Some new citrus varieties have become very popular in recent years. Take Jinqiu tangerines as an example, they are on the market more than a month earlier than ordinary tangerines, and the price is 3-4 times that of Nanfeng Tangerines. The market prospect is promising. This variety is currently exported less.”

Nanchang Lingchuang Fruit Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in Nanfeng tangerines and grapes, and its business covers import, export and domestic sales in China. The company has 10 years of experience in the export business, and its export markets include Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Russia.
