“Water, energy and food sovereignty at the heart of medFEL 2023”

MedFEL is a key annual event for the professionals of the fruit and vegetable sector. MedFEL 2023 will take place on April 26-27th at the exhibition center of Perpignan.

As a true meeting place for committed actors of the sector, exhibitors and visitors, medFEL is an event of the Occitania/Pyrénées-Méditerranée region, organized by the regional economic development agency AD’OCC and the SPAS organization. Besides allowing professionals of the fruit and vegetable market to meet and exchange, medFEL is also an event rich in information and content, thanks to the participation of experts opening the debate on various challenges and current topics relevant to the sector. Of course, the European harvest predictions for summer fruit crops, the true hallmark of medFEL, will be at the heart of the program.

MedFEL 2023, an edition marked by unprecedented commitment
After a 2022 edition which allowed for some nice commercial exchanges between professionals, many business meetings and high-quality conferences on the challenges of the sector, medFEL is raising the bar even higher this year to meet the expectations of the sector’s professionals and consumers. Given the current geopolitical context and the significant challenges related to climate change, all the elements of the sector must face economic and ecological challenges: water, energy, food sovereignty are all hot topics in 2023.

MedFEL 2023 will accommodate 230 exhibitors from France and abroad, involved in sustainable and eco-responsible approaches and spread over 7 exhibition areas: production, import/export, transport and logistics, packaging, process/equipment and engineering. This year, medFEL will also welcome a new sector: medFLOR, dedicated to the cut flower and seed industry.

4,000 targeted visitors, professionals of the sector (supermarket chains, retailers, wholesalers, caterers and the processing industry…) are expected this year to exchange and create new commercial partnerships. The International VIP Buyers program is also renewed this year, in order to allow targeted decision-makers and local players to meet, thereby creating new business flows to boost their export sales.

2022 edition

Innovation, the main focus of medFEL
MedFEL acts as a support tool for the sector, allowing all actors to tackle the current issues. This 2023 edition will focus on promoting eco-responsible initiatives: environmentally-friendly labels and certifications, eco-logistics, new packaging…

This year more than ever, the event will give innovation a central place thanks to the Lab’Innov by medFEL, a real innovation space, which is expanding to welcome an increasing number of start-ups involved in the challenges of the future and offering innovative products and/or services.

Innovation in the fruit and vegetable sector in France also includes the emergence of new ranges of products made in France, such as nuts and legumes, especially in Occitania. MedFEL is open to these new productions, which are great for the future of the sector as they meet the new consumption trends of more plant-based diets.

European harvest predictions for summer fruits
Content is now part of the essence of medFEL which has been able to bounce back and remain present for the sector since the sanitary crisis, namely with the medFEL Tuesdays launched in 2021. This digital format has helped maintain the European harvest predictions for summer fruits, the true hallmark of the event, at the right dates and it has also confirmed the legitimacy and anchoring of medFEL. MedFEL Tuesdays are now renewed each year, in May, to allow the timely announcement of the European predictions for the peach and nectarine harvests.

On site, during the actual medFEL exhibition, the European harvest predictions for summer fruits will bring clear answers to the professionals’ potential questions. They are part of a content offer proposed by medFEL, with an extremely rich program with 25 conferences, round tables and debates to discuss the many issues faced by the fruit and vegetable sector, especially related to sustainable development.

This year, 2 key witnesses will testify to the commitment of medFEL and they will speak to share their own analysis of the issues at hand, from a socio-economic perspective.
