"Demand for Italian persimmons has grown by 40% in one week"

"We are receiving a lot of requests for our Rojo Brillante persimmons, as demand has grown by 40% in one week from the general markets and especially from big retail chains," reports Francesca Gallicchio, administrator at Gallicchio Frutta, a company established in 2021 that has managed to stand out on the domestic and foreign markets when it comes to both the quantity and quality of the volumes sold.

Pallet leaving for the Italian markets

"Around 20 pallets set off from our processing warehouse every day, and we could do even more if we had more de-tanned produce available. We cover good part of the national territory, but most of the requests come from central-southern regions such as Puglia, Lazio, Basilicata and Calabria."

Demand from Europe is also increasing, though the continent is dealing with the consequences of the mild weather. "The abnormal high temperatures this fall are generating very large fruits. We have a large percentage of 550-550 g fruits, which are not the favorite with European operators. We only supply German markets and chains at the moment, but requests are coming in from Poland, Denmark and the Czech Republic. We will have more volumes available of lower grades (280-400 g) next week thanks to the drop in temperatures, however, so we will be able to supply even the more demanding foreign clients."

As for prices, "despite the sudden spike in orders, they have remained the same, but we cannot complain. Current prices seem satisfactory and they are anyway higher than 2021. The idea was to prolong the 2022/23 campaign at least until mid-February, but the excessive demand will force us to finish one month early, which cannot but please us, actually!"
