Port of Piraeus

Banana shipment from Costa Rica contains 16 kilos of cocaine

In the Port of Piraeus, the customs auditors of the Independent Public Revenue Authority found a huge stash of cocaine hidden in a banana shipment from Costa Rica. Using the special risk analysis algorithm, they selected a container from Costa Rica – its final destination being Croatia - that declared a load of bananas for inspection at the 3rd Customs of Piraeus.

The special X-RAY machine scanned the container and detected an indication of "organic material" in the refrigeration machinery area. Inspectors opened the refrigerators, found and seized 14 packages containing 16 kilograms of cocaine. The value of the drugs amounts to 650,000 euros, Proto Thema reported.
