Belarusian company hopes to export cranberries to Kazakhstan

Belarusian company OAO Polesskiye Zhuraviny is searching for a way of exporting cranberries to Kazakhstan. The cranberry harvest began in late September and is over already. Unfortunately, this year’s yield is lower than that of last season. The plants were negatively affected by the thaw in winter and summer drought.

Company's director Vasily Lyagusky: "Previously, we supplied hand-picked cranberries to the UK. Now we export to Russia. ... We are exploring the markets of the East, in particular Kazakhstan. We have great hopes to access the Chinese market. But, most importantly, we are consolidating our foothold on the national market: sale of fresh and processed cranberries.”

This year, OAO Polesskiye Zhuraviny harvested 210 tons of blueberries, which was more than last year. For the first time, the company had a crop of black currants. Its cultivation was started two years ago. At first, the company planted 7 hectares but plans to increase the areas. "Next year we will get an industrial-scale harvest. We will increase the area to the optimal size, depending on the sales markets. Then we will see whether to increase by two or three times," Vasily Lyagusky said.
