Peak harvest period of Indonesian mangosteens has started

“It has been more than 2 months since Indonesian mangosteens entered their new harvest season in August and, recently, the peak harvest period has started. Current prices are more affordable than the average. Compared with the same period last year, the market has seen a price drop of around 10%,” Chintya Tjoeng, CEO of Frozen Fruits Company, told Freshplaza.

As a leading fruit grower and exporter in Indonesia, Frozen Fruits works with the local farmers from Padang in West Sumatra to produce mangosteens. Each year, under normal circumstances, the harvest time is from August to Jan. Chintya Tjoeng said, “In terms of export, China is our main market. In the last few months, with the easing of Covid related measures and stabilized shipping costs, the overseas demand is getting stronger.”

As is well known, Indonesia is one of the largest pineapple producers in the world. Pineapples in Indonesia are a high-value commodity. In recent years, pineapple production has continued to rise. Exporting countries include China, Japan, Singapore etc.

On August 15, the Chinese government announced that the import of fresh pineapples from Indonesia that meet the relevant requirements is allowed. The huge potential demand from the Chinese market creates a great commercial opportunity for Indonesian pineapples.

When talking about this, Chintya Tjoeng mentioned, "Without a doubt, China would be one of the main export destinations for our pineapples. Actually, we are now in the process of sending our first shipment there, the market prospects look good."

Apart from fresh mangosteens and pineapples, Frozen Fruits is also supplying other fruits, such as frozen strawberries.
