Roberto Boscolo, wholesaler at Maap

"Good summer for exports, but things have slowed down now"

Roberto Boscolo, coordinator of wholesalers at Maap Padua, reports that summer was very pleasing when it comes to fresh produce exports, especially summer fruit. Now, however, the situation has changed.

"Tourism was great, so we sold a lot especially in tourist destinations. But, most of all, exports went well. Our market is traditionally oriented abroad and our wholesalers are equipped in this sense."

Croatia, Austria and Hungary are some of the leading destinations. "Sales have grown, especially those of summer fruit, which restored the faith of operators."

Things have slowed down now that fall is here. "The domestic market is suffering and consumption is limited. In addition, there is a lack of bell peppers, eggplants and tomatoes and costs are soaring, while consumers have less to spend. This combination is definitely not the best."

FreshPlaza has talked to Boscolo while he was at the Madrid fair. "This is my first time here, it is a great event - there are a lot of people, a sign that the Spaniards are doing well, they are very well organized. Unlike our Italian system, unfortunately."
