Prices for round red tomatoes in Uzbekistan remain at a record high. While in July and August, the average wholesale prices were two times higher than last year’s levels, over the past month, this gap has increased even more. In September 2022, the price for red round tomatoes increased by 1.6 times, and during this month, the average wholesale prices were 2.5-3 times higher than in the same period last year.
From September 2 to September 30, 2022, the average wholesale price for a red round tomato in Uzbekistan increased from 7,000 to 11,000 sum/kg ($0.64 to $1.00), i.e., by 57%. At the same time, during September 2022, the average wholesale prices for these products were 2-2.9 times higher than the levels recorded in the same month last year. As of September 30, 2022, current wholesale prices were 2.4 times higher than on the same date in 2021.
