Mexican squash season kicks off

SunFed Perfect Squash from Sonora is underway and the grower-shipper has kicked off its late fall crop. Harvest began last week which was about 10 days behind schedule due to a longer than typical monsoon season.

The season begins in Hermosillo, Mexico where it will stay for approximately six weeks. Then production moves to Guaymas and then further down to Culiacán. The season goes until May.

SunFed's season begins in Hermosillo, Mexico.

Supported by increased demand from the company's retail and food service partners, acreage is up 20 percent. SunFed distributes throughout the U.S. and into Canada as well.

Both conventional and organic Italian zucchini, yellow straight neck and grey with slicer cucumbers are just around the corner.

“Our fall crops are grown in one of the most beautiful areas of northern Mexico by the best growers in the business,” says JC Myers, vice-president sales and marketing for SunFed Produce. “We look forward to the season delivering upon our Perfect Produce promise.”
