"The drought was the main problem, especially in the Coquimbo region"

The 2022 Chilean clementine export season ends with a 39% drop in the volume exported

At week 32, Chilean clementine exports had registered a 39% drop in volume compared to the same date in 2021, totaling 41,832 tons. This year the drought deeply affected the Coquimbo region, which was reflected in the enormous drop in clementine exports, stated Juan Enrique Ortuzar, the president of the Citrus Committee.

"The main problem was the drought, especially in the Coquimbo region, where orchards were badly affected. Fortunately, the rains and snow accumulated this year will bring partial relief for the next season."

98.6% of all exports were destined for the United States, 73% went to the east coast (29,928 tons), and the remaining 27% to the west coast (11,330 tons). The remaining shipments were destined for Latin America (508 tons), Canada (65 tons), Europe (0.2 tons), and Japan (0.1 tons).
