Accusing company of ‘manipulating’ fruit prices

Himachal apple growers to picket Adani Group procurement stores on August 25

Himachal Pradesh apple growers have decided to picket the three Adani Group-owned CA stores in the state on August 25. Adani Agri Fresh Limited, an Adani Group company, had recently announced Rs 76 per kg as procurement price for premium quality apples, which the orchardists said was “too less” in view of the rising costs of inputs. Though the price was Rs 4 a kg higher than Rs 72 in 2021, it was lower than the Rs 88 per kg announced by the company in 2020.

Being the biggest corporate buyer of apples in Himachal, Adani Agri Fresh owns three controlled atmospheric (CA) pressure stores in Shimla district, including at Sainj, Rampur and Rohru. The company is blamed by orchardists for “manipulating” the rates.
