Alison Tolson - Avorama

"The crop volume for this season is markedly higher than last year, but major rainfall events have affected crop quality"

Avorama is located on the Mid North Coast of NSW. The company packs fruit from an area stretching as far north as Beechmont (in the hinterland behind the Gold Coast) to Mangrove Mountain in the south (approximately 1 hour north of Sydney).

"Our main packing season is from mid June – mid October, however smaller amounts of fruit are packed after that finishing by the end of March," explains Alison Tolson, owner of Avorama.

Hass is the main variety packed for organic growers as well as conventional.

May – July shares the same market place as North, Central and South East Queensland.

July – September shares the same market place as Central and South East Queensland, with imports from New Zealand filtering in.

October – March shares the same market place as New Zealand, Tri States (Riverina area), Western Australia and the new season of North Queensland.

"Our premium brand is Tree 2 Me, our Class 1 brand is C-2-C. We export to Singapore, Malaysia and Honk Kong, we also supply other exporters.

"The crop volume for this season is markedly higher than last year, but major rainfall events across most growing regions have affected crop quality. Orchard management became difficult due to water logged farms and tree health is and will continue to struggle for some time."

Alison said that compared to this time last year market conditions have improved.
