San Basilio Fruits plans to enter both markets after positioning the fruit in Europe

Antioquia's gulupa looks to Asia and the US

San Basilio Fruits, a Colombian company headquartered in Girardota, Antioquia, has arrived with its gulupa, also known as purple passion fruit, in supermarkets in Europe.

Currently, the company ships two containers of gulupa a week to the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. They plan to export three containers and venture into new destinations, such as Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Asia.

The company was created seven years ago by a group of entrepreneurs who had a career of more than two decades in the fruit and vegetable sector. San Basilio Fruits produces its fruits on its own farms and with farmers who produce five to ten hectares of gulupa per farm, where they harvest approximately 100,000 kg of gulupa per month.

The company has Global GAP and Rainforest Alliance certifications and is in the process of obtaining the Smeta certificate this year and the BRC certificate in 2023.
