Onion sector people celebrate start of Konaxx Onions' new sorting line

People in the onion sector happily made the trip to Friesland, in the Netherlands, to visit Konaxx Onions. This, the only onion packing station in that province, invested in a fully automatic onion grader from Eqraft. Reason enough to invite business relations to celebrate the start of the new line. That is precisely what many fellow onion sorters and exporters did on Friday evening, August 12.

The Konaxx team: Teresa Diekstra, Evelien Nagel, Ulbe Geertsma, and Tjerk Nagel.

About 25,00 tons of onions roll off Konaxx conveyor belts every year. The company offers various small packages, 25 kg bags, big bags, and bulk. They export most of these to places like Scandinavia, Central Europe, and the Baltic countries. Konaxx also supplies potatoes, cabbage, carrots, beets, celeriac, and turnips.

According to Tjerk Nagel, saving labor was the main reason for this investment. "The Eqrader saves us six people. We entered into this partnership with Eqraft to be ready for the future and to be able to deal flexibly with the ever-changing labor market and our customers' increasing quality requirements."

Full house on a beautiful summer's evening.

The Eqrader lets Konaxx quickly sort its onions according to quality, size, weight, shape, and color, using internal and external checks. Even rot on the inside can be detected thanks to camera and infrared technology. The Eqrader has been further developed in recent years and is now found at various local and overseas agricultural companies. Konaxx's machine boasts the latest upgrades.

Jan Franje, Nico Overduin (Tuns), Mees Joostens, Aad Veenman (Poton Overseas), and Ineke Franje.

This was a special project for Eqraft's Rutger Keurhorst too. "We've never installed such a modern line in an old warehouse before, but it all fit perfectly. Konaxx chose a machine with relatively few exits. Most importantly, Tjerk could keep running his old line alongside the new one. And now that the season has started, he can get plenty of work done with this new line."
