The production of pears in the Mexican state of Michoacan has suffered a significant contraction in the last 5 years. As a result, many producers in the entity have preferred to exchange the pear for other products that have greater value in the market. According to data from the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), pear production in the entity has fallen from 9,988 tons in 2018 to 6,150 tons last year; i.e. a whopping 38.4% fall.
According to data from the SIAP, by June of this year, the production stood at nearly 1,750 tons. It's worth noting, however, that the strongest harvest period takes place in the second half of the year.
