Vincent Elegoet, Saveurs du Bout du Monde:

A well loved passion fruit from Breton

Vincent Elegoet, manager of the company Saveurs du Bout du Monde, has been offering his customers, wholesalers, and retailers, passion fruit grown in Brittany, in the Finistère department of France. An atypical product that makes a big impression: "Last year we had very small volumes. This year, we have doubled the production area".

This exotic fruit is grown in a greenhouse, and benefits from the current high temperatures to grow: "With such temperatures, the greenhouse is not heated. It only protects the plant, which grows in a controlled environment. Produced without any treatment, it is a drooping plant that covers an entire wall of the greenhouse. The producer lets the passionflower grow, trims it once, and harvests the fruits when they drop".

This niche product has had no difficulty finding buyers: "The main advantage of this local origin is that the fruit arrives at our customers with its stalk, a sign of freshness. A characteristic that is difficult to find with fruit that has traveled several weeks by boat. At the beginning of the season, the visual aspect of the fruit may surprise by a lack of homogeneity, but the eating quality is already very good.

Ginger

A range of exotic fruits that will expand in the autumn as SBM will offer its customers ginger... from Brittany of course!
