According to the president of the Inform@cción consultancy firm, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, Peruvian avocado exports in July recorded a monthly historical record as the country exported a total of 115,783,031 kilos, i.e. 7.4% more than the 107,757,873 kilos of avocado it shipped in July 2021.
Cilloniz Benavides stressed that, in previous years, avocado exports peaked in May and June; in 2022, however, they would peak in July and August due to the increased supply of late avocado.
Cilloniz said that avocado producers from Ica, Chavimochic, and Arequipa had left the avocado in the trees (to preserve them) because of the low prices there were in the international market in the first months of the campaign. Now that prices are recovering, they are taking the fruit out in this second part of the campaign. "We'll see how this will affect the flowering and curdling of the fruit for the 2023 campaign."
He also said that the country had exported 103,906,880 kilos of avocado in June of this year, i.e. 4.65% less than the 108,976,344 kilos shipped in June 2021. In May of this year, the country exported 100,810,781 kilos, 15% more than the 87,683,053 kilos exported in May of the previous year.
According to Cilloniz, Peru is expected to export much more avocado in August of this year than in August of other years, when there was already a significant reduction in the volumes shipped.
