Filipino government considers white onions importation

A day after the retail price of white onions hit P400 a kilo, the Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday reported that the farm commodity is no longer available in different wet markets in Metro Manila. On Monday, the retail price of white onions reached P400 a kilo at Pritil Market.

On the other hand, the retail price of red onions ranges from P110 to P150 per kilo in various markets in the National Capital Region (NCR). Agriculture Undersecretary Kristine Evangelista said that the government is eyeing the importation of both red and white onions to address the shortage in the supply.
