Banana is the most consumed fruit in Brazil. According to the IBGE , national production in 2021 was 7 million tons in an area of 465,900 hectares . After the culture is implanted in the field, its management must be carried out with the adoption of an appropriate management, in order to meet the requirements of water, light, nutrients and the control of pests and diseases.
To address soil fertility issues, the Cooperativa Regional Agropecuária Vale do Itajaí (Cravil) and Maxisolo – the plant nutrition division of SulGesso – recently promoted a meeting between banana producers in Vale do Itajaí, an important fruit producing region in Santa Catarina. During the informative panel, which brought together more than 50 producers, issues focused on nutrition and soil fertilization for banana plantations were addressed.
Solutions for soil correction were also presented , such as the one identified on the property of producer Joel Kraisch. “The Cravil technicians did a soil analysis and found that it needed calcium and sulfur. We apply a product called SulfaCal now in winter to solve this problem and improve rooting and nutrient absorption by the plant”, says the producer.
