In the first ten days of July, Combimetal Carrera, a company based in Policoro, southern Italy, specializing in the design and manufacture of steel greenhouse facilities, will start building one-, two- and three-row plants for the substrate cultivation of strawberries. The facilities will be located in several cultivation areas, including the Ionian Calabria, Salento, Oristano and Metapontino, on a total area of over 15 hectares. Completion is scheduled for the first week of September.

"Not only the advantage of more efficient and improved farming, along with the convenience of harvesting the strawberries and cleaning up the site, but also the chance to finance the investment with support from regional or national funds can persuade entrepreneurs to buy these cultivation systems. If times were not so uncertain due to the war and price increases, interest would undoubtedly be even greater," said Giusy Carrera, commercial manageress of the company.

"Most installations will have a double adjustable gutter, with the option for a third row. By utilizing the height, large average yields per square meter can be achieved. The maximum length of the pole is 2.20 meters. The gutters are made of galvanized and lacquered sheets with a special coating and a warranty of 6 years. They are supported by 2.5 mm steel posts and 5 mm hot-dip galvanized brackets. We have a new modern 10-meter profiling machine that allows us to speed up the preparation of the sheets. For the assembly of large areas, we can bring the machines to the plots of land.

"We will be taking orders until the first days of September, so that by the end of that month we can complete the final facilities. Then the cultivators will have just the time to place the substrate blocks and start cultivation. We are not experiencing any problems with the purchase of raw materials. Every month we unload about 250 tons of steel plates and delivery times are reasonable, despite the geopolitical and commercial perils.
